Roti Canai / Malaysian bread

An epic way of making a soft and irresistable tasty roti canai, a common Malaysian type of bread



Methods

Combine all-purpose flour, salt, egg, evaporated milk, shortening. Add in warm water slowly and mix them well until soft dough formed. Knead the dough for 20 minutes.

Shape the dough into small round balls and coat them with olive oil for at least 8 hours or overnight in the fridge.

Take small ball of dough and press it with your hand and stretch it wide. Pleat the dough like a long rope and then swirl it. Flatten the dough a little and fry it on hot griddle or pan until it turns to brown.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 2 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Olive oil or any kind of cooking oil
